Description:

Manufactured in July of 1942. The Remington Model 1903 (Modified) rifle represented a transition from the finely crafted Model 1903 rifles, and the wartime expedient Model 1903A3 rifles. The receiver has standard markings, and the barrel is marked "RA/flaming bomb/7-42". Second pattern straight grip stock with dual reinforcing bolts, no finger grooves, early style high hump handguard, original crossed-cannon and unboxed Remington "RLB" cartouches, and a single circled "P" proof. It has correct "early milled" Remington parts. The early smooth body bolt, cutoff, extractor and cocking piece all have original Remington "blued finish", and the other parts have their early original green Remington parkerizing. All the blued and parkerized parts are correctly stamped "R" for Remington Arms. This rifle is pictured and identified by serial number in the November 2002 American Rifleman article "The Remington M1903 Rifles" by Bruce N. Canfield. Provenance: Bruce Canfield collection.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. 90% original parkerized finish remains with some small areas of spotting and discoloration on the trigger guard assembly, scattered dings and scratches, and handling marks throughout. The stock is very fine with clear markings, small dings and bruises overall, oxidation on the buttplate, and a deep rubbed oil finish. Mechanically excellent.
