Description:

This is a late WWII production (March 1945) M1C sniper rifle originally produced by Springfield Armory that was subsequently rebuilt and converted into a standard M1 Garand configured rifle during the Korean War. Comes with a letter of verification from David McClain who has researched and authenticated numerous M1C sniper rifles. Originally there were approximately 7,900 M1C Sniper Rifles manufactured by Springfield Armory from January-December 1945 (serial numbers generally falling between 3,250,000 - 3,790,000). Rebuilt by Springfield Armory during the Korean War, this rifle has a S-A-6-51 dated barrel and the scope base removed and the five holes in the receiver plugged by Ordnance personal. The upper rear area of the receiver was marked by Springfield "SA-52" to denote rebuilt. The rationale for this work was due to the urgent need for standard M1 rifles during the early days of the Korean Conflict outweighing the need for M1C sniper rifles. In 1953, many of these M1s were reconverted back into their original M1C sniper configuration, making these SA modified M1Cs fairly rare. It is fitted with a mix of internal WWII parts, a HRA marked operating rod and standard post-WWII sight set. The stock shows a very faint boxed "OG" cartouche on the left side with no "P" proofs. Comes with an unmarked green web sling. Provenance: Bruce Canfield collection.

Rating Definition:

Very fine as refurbished with 98% arsenal parkerized finish overall with only minor edge and high spot wear overall. The wood components are all fine with a nice matching dark brown color overall and the stock showing various refurbishment marks on the sides. A very nice and scarce M1 converted from M1C sniper rifle.
