Description:

Offered here is an original alloy-cylinder equipped U.S. M13 built on the 6-shot K frame with "C" serial number prefix featuring a back strap only stamped "U.S." and a top strap stamped "REVOLVER, LIGHTWEIGHT, M13." The serial number correctly falls into the noted serial number range (C247000-C405363) of USAF M13s manufactured from 1952 to 1957. These revolvers were destroyed en masse after being retired from service. Although this revolver lacks the usual U.S. Air Force of property markings, these "U.S." back strap marked examples have been identified as being correct USAF contract guns and are considered an extremely scarce variation to an already rare U.S. S&W model revolver (see Supica and Nahas' "Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson" on pages 145-147). The left side of the frame is stamped with a letter "P" above the trigger guard. The sides of the barrel have the standard S&W markings. The right grip panel is numbered to the gun. The Magna grips correctly have S&W medallions. (Air Force medallions are only found on A.F.NO. numbered guns.)

Rating Definition:

The revolver retains 99% plus original blue finish showing a light cylinder drag line and a few very scattered minor dings relegated to the surface of the original alloy cylinder and trigger guard. Nearly all of the original case colors remain on the hammer and trigger. Significant, but thin cracks are noted on the underside of the breech area where the barrel meets the frame. The grips are fine with a few moderate pressure dents and crisp checkering overall. Mechanically excellent. A outstanding addition to any post-war U.S. military or S&W collection.
