Description:

This is a fine example of a late production Model 1928A1 Thompson Submachine gun that was originally sold to the U.S. Military then resold to a Police Department after WWII. It was originally manufactured by the Auto Ordnance Corp of Bridgeport, Connecticut prior to WWII circa 1941-42. The various "US" markings were either removed or obliterated by the military prior to it being sold to a Police Dept. Currently, the left side shows a faint "W.B." inspector marking behind the ejector with the "U.S." having been removed and the "1" in 1928A1 overstamped with a letter "C," indicating it was released for commercial sales. The serial number has also been stamped with a letter "X" suffix indicating it was listed by the military as duplicate serial number from another contract. It has the matching serial number (AO150467X) stamped on the rear underside of the trigger housing. These early WWII Thompson SMGs have a mix of early and pre-war features such as no compensator on the barrel, horizontal forend, blued finish with a detachable buttstock and adjustable Lyman ladder rear sight, graduated 1-6 (100-600 yards). The left side of the receiver is marked "U.S. MODEL 1928 AC/No. 150467 X" followed by "THOMPSON SUBMACHINE GUN/CALIBER .45 AUTOMATIC CARTRIDGE.". The right side is marked with "AUTO-ORDNANCE CORPORATION/BRIDGEPORT CONNECTICUT U.S.A.", followed by six lines of patent numbers and dates towards the rear of the receiver. This desirable weapon has the correct all walnut buttstock, horizontal foregrip and pistol grip and is complete with one 30-round stick magazine and an original Thompson KERR No-Buckle canvas sling.

Rating Definition:

Fine as reblued with 90% of the blue finish overall with visible faint markings overall. The wood components are all in fine condition with a nice matching dark brown color showing handling marks and light scratches from field use. A desirable early WWII U.S. military issue Thompson SMG. NOTE: This item is restricted as a National Firearms Act (NFA), fully transferable Class 3, which is registered with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, (BATFE) that is classified as a "Curios or Relic" as defined in 27 CFR, 478.11. These weapons are still subject to the provisions of 18 U.S.C. Chapter 44 and 27 CFR part 478.
