Description:

This is a very fine example of a late WWII production British Enfield No. 4 MK 1 (T) sniper rifle that is complete with an original WWII British Mk II scope, mount, metal scope and wooden storage/carrying case. These rifles were the standard British sniper rifles developed in the late 1930s and used until the early 1960s. The receiver is correctly marked "No. 4 MK I (T)", and the left side of the butt socket is marked "M47C/ENGLAND/1944/L35216/TR". The rifle has the standard blade front sight and tangent military rear sight. It is fitted with the correct wartime smooth semi-pistol grip walnut stock, forend and handguard set with standard proofmarks. The buttstock is stamped "S51" directly behind the pistol grip area, fitted with a pot-metal buttplate. The forend is serial numbered, "37320" which has been lined out. It has its correct original matching serial numbered bolt. The top of the buttstock is numbered "16992" and it is fitted with its correct screw-on cheekpiece. The rifle comes with an earlier No 32 MKII scope, marked on top, "TEL.STG.No 32 MKII/H.B.M. Co/O.S. 165/REGo/No11040/Broad Arrow", with the rings numbered A18 and A19 respectively. The mounting bracket is stamped with serial number "F38015" and the scope is stored in its original matching No. 8 Mark I metal scope can. The can is marked on top with: "RIFLE F38015" and on the inside the lid it has a correct paper label with the same rifle and scope serial number information and it also contains an original scope adjustment tool. The tool is stamped "TOOL No. 32/STG.TEL MKI". The rifle is complete with a commercial "Boyt" marked commercial leather sling and a set of original 1944 dated leather scope covers. The rig is complete with two original box magazines and the correct wartime green wooden storage/shipping container.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 90% of the slightly faded original British black painted finish overall with only minor edge and high spot wear. The wood components are all in very fine condition with a nice all matching medium walnut color overall showing only minor handling marks on the sides of the buttstock. The scope and mount retain 95% of its original finish with some minor flaking on the front sun shade. The optics are clear, and the windage and elevation knobs turn correctly however it needs some adjustment as the cross-hair does not appear to move. The scope can retain 95% of it wartime brown painted exterior finish with clear original markings. The fine storage case retains 75% of its original green exterior painted finish showing wear on all the edges and corners with some old age cracks in the lid.
