A) 1908 Dated Mauser K98 Carbine

Description:

Blade front and tangent rear sights, with German proofs on the receiver, the three-line Oberndorf address over "1908" on the receiver ring and the one line address on the left side wall. The stock is smooth, with a brass tipped ramrod, conjoined "M/W" mark on the wrist, and a flat steel buttplate. Notes from the consignor attribute the carbine as a sample/trial weapon retained by the Mauser factory.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. 80% of the original blue is present, with some mild spotting, areas of brown patina and light handling marks. The bright components are in very good shape, with some cleaned shallow pitting on the bolt handle, and a small amount of spotting and traces of old storage grease overall. The stock is excellent, with a few light scratches and dents. Mechanically excellent.

Description:

Manufactured prior to the outbreak of the Balkan Wars, many Steyr-manufactured Mauser-pattern rifles and carbines were in Serbian inventories when the two nations found themselves on opposite sides of World War I (Serbia with the Entente, Austro-Hungary with the Central Powers). Blade front and folding ladder rear sights, with the Serbian crest and model nomenclature on top of the receiver ring and the Steyr address on the left side. Fitted with a smooth full length stock with a flat steel buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Very good as assembled, with 60% plus original blue, showing mild spotting, areas of brown patina and scattered handing marks. The stock has been restamped to match, other small parts are mixed, scattered scuffs and dents are present on the stock. Mechanically excellent.
