Description:

This is a very fine example of a early Broomhandle Mauser Model 1896, large ring flat side semi-automatic pistol with original matching wooden shoulder stock/holster. This example is an early version that is NOT retailer marked, which is scarce. These pistols were produced in the early 1900s with most being marked with a retailers name and address. These pistols were probably some of the best manufactured Mauser 1896 series pistols. The chamber is marked with "WAFFENFABRIK/MAUSER/OBERNDORF/A/N", with the serial number "22508" on the left side. The right side is stamped with the early Mauser "Antler" firing proof, with several small letter proofs on the underside of the barrel. This model has the correct large ring hammer, non-reinforced barrel/chamber area, long extractor, late style one-lug firing pin, and the flat nonmilled fame panels. It has a late style tangent rear sight, marked 50-1000 that is correctly numbered to the pistol and a fixed front sight. It is fitted with a set of matching walnut grips with 22 grooves on each side. It is complete with the original lanyard ring on the bottom of the grip frame. This pistol is accompanied by its original matching walnut shoulder stock/holster with the attaching iron numbered "22508" on top.

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 90% plus of the blue finish overall with wear on the edges and high spots with blue loss on the rear grip strap, front frame rails and lower edges of the magazine well/floor plate. The grips are in very fine condition with a nice matching color on both sides showing only minor handling marks on the sides. The shoulder stock is in fine condition overall with 50% of the blue on the attaching iron with some light pitting on one edge, with the wood having been refinished. A very fine example of an early large ring, flat side Mauser model 1896 Broomhandle pistol with all matching number to include the original shoulder stock.
