Description:

This is an excellent example of a very rare early production 1900 Swiss Contract Lugers of which only about 2,000 were produced. These pistols were the real first contract by the Swiss government for the Luger pistol produced in a specific serial number range (2000-5000) with both the military and commercial sales being in this range. These pistols all have the early features, such as the dished toggles with the toggle lock, the flat/recessed breech bolt, no stock lug, grip safety, flat main springs and fast taper barrel that is 4 3/4 inch long. This specific pistol has the correct Swiss cross in a sunburst on top of the chamber area with the top of the toggle marked "DWM". The left side of the barrel extension has the standard Swiss cross acceptance proof, and directly below that is the factory Swiss cross over "V" proof for Herr Vogelsang, the factory inspector. The top of the rear toggle directly in front of the rear sight also has the small Swiss cross acceptance proof. Although the rear sight has not been modified, it has been generally accepted that all pistols that were of a military contract had their rear sights modified to a "U" notch versus the early "V" notch. The left side of the barrel also has the small Swiss cross acceptance proof. The underside of the barrel has the full serial number of the pistol and so does the front of the frame. The various small parts all are correctly stamped with the last two digits of the serial number (55). The grips are checkered walnut with the correct Swiss style nickel-plated magazine with an unmarked wooden base. It has the rust blue finish with straw colored takedown lever, trigger, magazine release, extractor, ejector and thumb safety lever.

Rating Definition:

Excellent overall with 97% of the original blue finish overall with some very light thinning and browning on the front grip strap, with a little more wear on the stock lug, the side plate hump, the front edges of the frame rails, front edge of the barrel extension and the sides of the muzzle area. The grips are in near excellent condition with nice sharp diamonds just showing. The grips do have a few minor chips in a few areas with only one slightly larger pressure dent directly behind the magazine release on the right side. As noted, the numbers are all matching. An excellent example of a very early Swiss Contract Luger pistol.
