Description:

This is a very rare example of a late WWII production Walther PPK pistol with the dural aluminum frame that has been fitted with a set of late war black plastic Party Leader grips, complete with a Party Leader leather holster and belt. The Walther PPKs that were issued with the Party Leader grips were considered the Honor Weapon of the NSDAP and were presented by the Fuhrer to political leaders and or high ranking Nazi officials who had performed some meritorious service for the party. They were officially named as the "Honor Weapon of Political Leaders". The Party Leader grips are a molded plastic with the NSDAP eagle holding a swastika circled by a wreath. The internal lower rear grip is correctly reinforced with the steel band. These grips were usually brown; however, near the end of WWII a small number, such as this pistol, were black. (One is even known in .22 and is described on page 154 and photographed on page 158 of "Walther: Volume III 1908-1980" by James L. Rankin.) The left side of the slide is marked with the Walther banner followed by the two-line inscription and "Mod PPK". The right side of the slide and barrel at the muzzle and ejector port are marked with the "Eagle/N" acceptance marks with the serial number stamped vertically on the right side of the frame and across the slide. The pistol is complete with an original WWII Party Leader marked brown leather holster. This holster is stamped the spread wing Nazi eagle clutching the swastika on the flap with the "D.R.G.M./crossed rifles" stamped on the front flap. Inside the holster it is ink stamped with an unreadable marking and has a spare Walther marked magazine with the black finger rest base plate inside the magazine pouch. The belt is marked with a number "100" on the front tip and a four-line (unreadable) penciled inscription below that. The tongue is stamped with a small circled RZM proof followed by "L2/1/39" "KERNSTRUCK". The belt also comes with a reproduction gold colored, Party Leader type belt buckle.

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 98% plus of the original late war blued/milled finish on the slide with 99% of the blackened dural aluminum finish on the frame, with just a hint of wear on the front edges of the slide. The grips are very fine with only minor handling marks on the lower edges with slight outward warpage around the top (obscures safety function) and front grip strap, a couple of very minor stress cracks around the grip screw and escutcheon. Mechanically functions fine with the exception of the aforementioned safety lever obstruction. The holster is very good with a nice dark brown color overall,, a clear eagle/swastika on the front flap, light age cracking on the flap and heavier cracking on the lower flap. The magazine pouch has darkened, and it shows scuffing around the edges and high spots with solid stitching. The brown leather belt is excellent. A very nice high condition WWII Walther Party Leader Pistol rig.
