Developed from the foreign contract M29 Mauser short rifle and diverted to the German military forces after the annexation of Austria. Inverted "V" blade front and tangent rear sights, "660/1939" Steyr manufacturer's code, and year of manufacture on the front receiver ring with three "eagle/WaA623" acceptance marks on the right side, and the serial number and "eagle/swastika" firing proof on the left. All visible serial numbers are matching. The underside of the stock is stamped with the serial number over two acceptance marks with the scarce "eagle/swastika/L" Luftwaffe acceptance stamp on the right side.

Rating Definition:

Extremely fine. 75% plus original blue finish remains with clear legible markings, some edge and high point wear, scattered dings and surface scratches throughout, and scattered light spotting. The stock is fine with a lightly visible hairline crack at the front of the top handguard, scattered small pressure dents, spotting on the buttplate, and clear acceptance marks. Mechanically excellent. Writer can recall only a few other G29/40s of this quality going through our auction.
