The factory letter confirms the "Subject revolver was a sample of the Buffalo Bill Centennial Commemorative kept by the Colt factory" and was retained until October 16, 2008. It also details all of the features of this commemorative which was released in 1983 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the establishment of Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show, easily the most famous of the late 19th and early 20th century wild west shows. The letter also confirms the "varnished walnut case lined in gray velvet, within cardboard box," and the "Wood grain box with identifying end label. Also includes a heavy cardboard shipping carton, marked on one end with serial number." The box also has an attached slip indicating shipment to the Colt Custom Shop and an order date of December 13, 1983. The revolver has the standard commemorative markings and features.

Near new in box and presentation case with only some faint handling marks. The case and boxes are very good with minor storage wear and a surface tear on the wood grain box likely from removing a sticker or tape. Only around 500 of these were manufactured and this is the very first one that was kept in the factory collection!
