This very rare and attractive Colt New Frontier Revolver is 1 of 25 made by Colt to test the possibility of introducing the .44 magnum caliber New Frontier into the Colt product line. Production was never undertaken, and the prototype revolvers went into the Colt Archive Collection prior to being released for sale to collectors. The factory letter included with the consecutively numbered experimental prototype advises that these revolvers should not be loaded or fired. It has a fixed ramp front sight and adjustable rear sight with "COLT NEW FRONTIER S.A.A. .44 MAGNUM" on the left side of the barrel and the one-line address on top. The two-line/three-date patent information is on the left side of the frame followed by the Rampant Colt. It is fitted with a nickel-plated, non-fluted cylinder and smooth walnut grips with gold Colt medallions. It includes a "woodgrain" factory box with a Colt Custom Gun Shop label that matches the gun and a blue plastic factory hard case. The accompanying factory lists this revolver as one of 25 .44 Magnum New Frontier prototypes built by Colt and featuring a 7 1/2 inch barrel, nickel plated non-fluted cylinder with blue finish on the balance and walnut grips. The revolver was shipped to John Keosayian of Chester Heights, Pennsylvania, on August 18, 1899, as part of a 2 gun shipment.

Near new with some light scratches on the cylinder and some handling/storage marks. The box has one end torn off and some general storage type wear. The hard case is like new.
