The serial number indicates the revolver was originally a Colt 125th Anniversary Commemorative manufactured in 1961. The included letter from Old Dominion Engraving Co. and signed by Howard Dove confirms the revolver's current configuration and that it features "Cuno Helfricht style with D+ coverage [engraving] and blue engraved screws." It also calls out the various designs, including the marshal armed with two single actions on the left side of the recoil shield, the scene from Charles M. Russell's painting "Smoke of a .45" on the left side of the frame, the scene on the right side of the frame based on Frederic Remington's 1889 painting "A Dash for the Timber," the sheriff's bade and Single Action on the loading gate, and the scrimshawed scene on the left grip based on the famous Frank E. Schoonover painting "Tex and Patches" that was used for Colt advertisements in the 1920s. The ejector housing is signed "HWDOVE-M.ENG/COLT-WINCH" by the cylinder pin. All of the engraving scenes are incredibly finely details and are iconic scenes from the Old West. The Helfricht engraving patterns throughout are likewise masterfully cut. The shipping sleeve for the box has a Colt Custom Shop end label that has been marked to match.

Exceptionally fine as master engraved by Howard M. Dove, former master engraver at Colt Firearms and U.S. Repeating Arms Company. There are only extremely faint signs of light handling and storage. Mechanically excellent. The bright blue finish on the screws and small parts contrast beautifully with the bright, high polish nickel on the rest of the revolver, and the scene on the grip stands out and has a really attractive three-dimensional appearance. This is an absolute masterpiece and one of the finest revolvers engraved by renowned master engraver Howard Dove.
