Description:

Manufactured during the Civil War for the commercial market. The barrel is stamped with the one-line New York address. The rebated cylinder has the stagecoach holdup scene. The left side of the frame is marked "COLTS/PATENT," and the left side of the trigger guard is marked "31 CAL." Matching serial numbers are found on the barrel, trigger guard, back strap, cylinder, wedge and arbor pin. The partitioned case is lined in velvet and contains a Goldmark cap tin, double face eagle powder flask, "L" shaped combination tool, "COLT'S/PATENT" marked iron bullet mold and case key.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The barrel and cylinder retain 30% original blue finish with the balance a smooth brown patina. The hammer, loading lever and frame retain strong traces of original case colors in the protected areas. Nearly all of the cylinder scene remains. There are a few long scratches near the front sight. The grip straps retain traces of original silver plating in the protected areas. The grip is fine showing a repaired chip, a tiny missing chip and some minor pressure dents and scratches with most of the original varnish remaining. Mechanically excellent. The relined case is very good with a couple hairline cracks on the lid, minor handling/storage wear and faded lining with high spot wear.
