Catalog Page: 72
Class: Antique
Description:

Manufactured in 1865 with standard commercial production fourth model markings and features (including all matching serial numbers) and later altered by fitting a smooth grip with a scrimshawed arrow and ten lines on the butt and "JAMES B HICKCOCK" inscribed along the back strap.

Rating Definition:

Fine as modified with 50% original blue on the barrel, patches of blue and flattened safety pins on the cylinder, 80% original case colors, traces of original silver, aged patina on the brass, and smooth gray patina and some light spotting on the balance. The back strap is bent forward and the slightly undersized replacement grip is good with cracking, chips absent, and an aged appearance. An interesting conversation piece using an original Model 1851 of the type Hickok carried and custom inscribing his name.
