Description:

This early "Model 1862 Pocket Navy" was manufactured in 1862 or 1863 at the beginning of production for this model. This model is based on the Model 1849 Pocket Model using improved steel and an rebated cylinder to use .36 caliber ammunition. Most of these revolvers are believed to have been shipped as .38 caliber cartridge conversions rather than completed percussion revolvers. It has a small post front sight, the one-line "NEW-YORK" address on top of the barrel, standard stagecoach roll-scene, notch rear sight and bordered knurling on the hammer, "COLTS/PATENT" on the left side of the frame, "S" and "36 CAL" on the left side of the trigger guard, matching small serial numbers throughout (hand written in the back strap inlet of the grip), and an "M" at the toe.

Rating Definition:

Very good plus with 25% original blue finish, vibrant case colors on the hammer and loading lever, gray and brown patina on the balance of the iron, moderate edge wear, light oxidation and pitting, strong original silver on the grip straps under the grip, and attractive aged patina on the brass. The grip is fine with moderate handling and edge wear. Mechanically fine.
