Description:

One of 23,000 estimated to have been manufactured in 1865 and 1866. This carbine has the Stabler cut-off and the standard manufacturer markings and features. There are "EAW" and "DAP" cartouches on the left side of the stock. Many of these later Spencers were used during the post-Civil War Indian Wars on the Great Plains and in the Southwest. Provenance: Bruce Canfield collection.

Rating Definition:

Very good plus with mottled brown patina, patches of heavier pitting on the forward section of the barrel, faint pitting and oxidation elsewhere, and general marks and scratches. The wood is fine and has some minor bruising and scrapes, some dark streaks on the left, and remains proud at the butt. Mechanically excellent.
