The Model 1842s were the last smoothbore muskets manufactured by the U.S. national armories and were manufactured with thicker barrels on the assumption that many would eventually be rifled. They were also the first arms manufactured by both Springfield and Harpers Ferry with fully interchangeable parts. Many of these earlier production Model 1842 were used in both the Mexican-American War and Civil War. Standard markings and features. Includes a "US" marked socket bayonet with leather scabbard and hanger.

Rating Definition:

Excellent, as-issued with some light scattered oxidation on the otherwise mostly bright metal surfaces. The wood is nearly as-issued and has mostly sharp edges and a few scrapes and dings from handling and storage. The leather is crackled but overall fine. Mechanically excellent.
