Only around 1,769 Model 1874 military rifles were manufactured in November 1871 to March 1877 with variations in caliber, triggers, stocks, etc. This one falls in the correct C50000+ range and has the standard bayonet stud/blade front sight, "SHARPS 45-70 GOVT" on top of the barrel ahead of the Lawrence patent notch and folding ladder rear sight, no barrel address marking, a plain trigger, the patent marking on the left, sling swivels on the center barrel band and butt, standard long military forearm with steel cap, slotted cleaning rod, and a solid buttstock.

Rating Definition:

Fine with 40% original blue finish (very bright blue under the forearm), traces of original case colors, and gray and brown patina and light spotting on the balance. The re-oiled wood is very good and has some minor scratches and dents and some slight chipping by the lock. Mechanically excellent.
