This unusual carbine has a "pinched" blade front sight, three-leaf rear sight, "FCW" cartouche on the right side of the forearm at the rear, "425" on the left flat at the breech, "P/H.B.R./anchor" and "eagle/USN/SPRINGFIELD/1870" on the right side of the action, the two-line Remington patent marking on the upper tang, and an unclear cartouche on the right side of the wrist. The barrel may be from a Navy Model 1867 rolling block carbine.

Good as assembled with 60% blue finish on the barrel, mostly bright breech block and hammer, mottled gray patina and light to heavy pitting on the action and buttplate, refinished wood, scattered surface chips, dents, numerous minor scrapes, and faint cartouches. Mechanically fine.
