Hooded blade front and "C" marked leaf rear sights, with "U.S./MODEL 1898. SPRINGFIELD ARMORY. 125860" on the left side of the receiver. Smooth straight wrist stock, with "JSA/1898" on the left side behind the saddle ring, "P" on the underside, and a smooth flat buttplate containing a 3-piece cleaning rod and an oiler.

Rating Definition:

Very good plus. The barrel shows traces of original blue in the protected areas around the stock, with a mixed gray patina on the remainder, light spotting and mild handling marks. Much of the original case colors have silvered out, with traces of the original color pattern. The stock is fine with crisp cartouche some cracking around the receiver, a semi-circular saddle hook indentation on the left side of the wrist, some visible space between the stock and the sides of the buttplate, and scattered chips and dings. Mechanically excellent. These Model 1898 Krag Carbines are seldom encountered in any condition!
