Description:

This attractive Spanish revolver very closely resembles a Smith & Wesson Double Action revolver in design. It has a round blade front sight on a solid rib that extends to about a quarter of an inch from the muzzle and a notch rear sight integral to the barrel latch. The top of the rib is marked in gold "DOCTOR ANGEL A. ALSINA -1905- EIBAR". The left side of the frame is marked "VDA AZPITARTE EIBAR". A few "Azpitarte" gunmakers in Eibar, Spain in the late 19th century have been recorded. The serial number is marked on the butt. "3" is marked on the left side of the grip straps. "1" is marked on the barrel latch and rear cylinder face. There is fine floral scroll gold overlay on more than half of the surfaces, and the cylinder flutes are gold filled. Aside from the gold, the revolver has a blue finish, a casehardened hammer and trigger, and is fitted with a fine pair of pearl grips. It comes in a fabric covered case with fitted interior. Provenance: Gillespie collection.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. The revolver retains 90% plus of the gold fill with some minor flaking visible in some areas such as the cylinder flutes. 95% of the original blue finish remains with a brown patina on the balance. Some traces of the original case colors remain with a dark patina and some spotting. The grips are very fine with smooth surfaces and bright appearance with iridescent colors. Mechanically fine with clear markings and designs. One post of the frame latch is absent. The case has significant staining and fading and some minor tears. Overall, an attractive example of Spanish workmanship at its finest!
