Description:

This revolver incorporates British Patent No. 2896 of 17 December 1858 and No. 242 of 26 January 1859. It features an octagonal sighted barrel stamped "L.A.C." (letter "C" partially obliterated), marked "LONDON," engraved with borderlines and a band of Celtic knotwork at the muzzle, and cut with five groove rifling. There is a grooved border engraved blued top strap, serial numbered cylinder engraved with a band of Celtic knotwork en suite, border and scroll and "KERR’S PATENT 316" engraved frame, signed border engraved casehardened back action lock, figured checkered walnut grip, silver escutcheon engraved with the crest and motto "Ut PROSIM" in a belt around a lit candle, border engraved butt cap and trigger guard, and bright rammer with locking-catch. There are London proofmarks. Comes in the original fitted mahogany case lined in green baize with accessories, including a fine Hawksley revolver flask and a brass double cavity bullet mould. The lid has Kerr’s "DIRECTIONS FOR LOADING/CLEANING" on the interior and circular brass escutcheon on the exterior. Engraved Kerr patent revolvers are seldom encountered and this specimen is unusual by virtue of the barrel and cylinder being engraved. This revolver was formerly in the Warren Anderson Collection.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The barrel, frame, lock and cylinder retaining 85% original blue finish with clear engraving and traces of blued finish remaining to the butt cap and trigger guard. The grip retains crisp checkering with minor handling marking. The mechanism remains crisp. The case is very good with minor storage and age related handling marking. The accessories are very good with an excellent powder flask. A great example of a highly desirable British percussion revolver.
