Description:

Established in the late 1830s by the Princely House of Putbus, Jagdschloss Granitz (hunting castle/lodge Granitz) was built on the tallest hill on the island of Ruegen, on the German Baltic coast. A major resort area, Ruegen Island was home to a number of high class vacation spots from the Imperial era clear to the modern day. While the von Putbus family was one of the last German noble houses to actually retain noble status at the end of WWI and retained ownership of about 1/6th the total land of Ruegen, the family came into conflict with the Nazis, starting with the leader of the KdF pressuring the family to supply land for the botched "Prora" resort scheme, escalating to denouncing German actions against the Jewish population, and finally ending with the death of the family patriarch in a concentration camp (officially from pneumonia, reportedly from a bullet) for associating with known masterminds of the 20 July Plot. The family land would be confiscated and redistributed by the Soviets following WWII, though Jagdschloss Granitz itself has survived to the modern day and serves as a very popular museum. The cap features a 17-point rack with a 19 inch span, bearing the mark "Granitz" in black ink below the antlers, and is fitted with a carved hardwood plaque, 10 inches wide and 12 inches tall with raised oak leaf designs and a decorative shield at the bottom.

Rating Definition:

The cap and antlers are very good, with some light wear and darkening with age. The plaque is good, with some cracks (chiefly visible from the back) and light chips.
