Description:

Unsigned and manufactured circa 1895. The blued barrels feature a rifled right tube chambered in 450 short black powder express and a left tube smoothbore for ball or shot. A raised matte rib with blade front sight, blued folding single leaf rear sight, and short mounting block possibly for use with a telescopic sight, substantial plain casehardened action with hinged breechblock of Peabody/Martini type, upper tang of the action fitted with a blued folding aperture sight and a sliding manual safety, casehardened underlever forming the trigger guard and front set trigger. Figured 13 ¼ inch stock with raised cheekpiece, checkered grip and forend, bright steel buttplate, sling mounts, and period leather sling. German black powder only proof conforming to the 1891 Proof Act. It has been suggested that the lack of maker’s signature and signs of use point to this potentially being an experimental firearm. Provenance: Property of a German Prince, great, great grandchild of Emperor Franz Josef I, Emperor of Austria and King of Hungary.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. The barrels retain 97% original blue finish with some rubbing at the muzzles and some storage and handling markings. The mounting block was added after original manufacture. The action and trigger guard retain 95% vibrant casehardened finish with some scattered patches of minor surface marking from prolonged storage. The stock is very good with only minor storage wear and handling marks. The checkering remains crisp. The front trigger mechanism sets correctly. This is an excellent and extremely rare combination gun.
