Description:

The items in the Royal Hunt Collection were acquired from members of the House of Hohenzollern, descendants of Prussian Kings and German Emperors, with most of the specimens attributed to Kaiser Wilhelm II. The House of Hohenzollern is a dynasty of former princes, electors, kings, and emperors of Hohenzollern, Brandenburg, Prussia, the German Empire, and Romania. The family arose in the area around the town of Hechingen in Swabia during the 11th century and took their name from Hohenzollern Castle. Mounted in the European style, this skullcap bears a nineteen-point rack, and is adorned with a gilt brass and polychrome enamel coat of arms of the Kingdom of Bavaria featuring a pair of crowned lion supporters and a "IN TREUE FEST" banner. The plaque is 13 1/2 inches wide and 21 inches tall, and is decorated with oak-themed carvings and secured to the front is an 1813/1814 Napoleonic War combatant medal. Also known as the War of the Sixth Coalition or the War of Liberation, the 1813 campaigns occurred in the aftermath of Napoleon's failed invasion of Russia, when the German nations entered an effective state of rebellion against the French. While Napoleon was often able to drive Prussian forces off the field of battle, he was unable to decisively eliminate said forces, and ultimately was forced to retire to France in response to Wellington's incursions. The end result would be Napoleon's first exile, the restoration of the French monarchy, and the re-establishment of multiple German states as independent nations.

Rating Definition:

Fair. The mounting hardware for the antlers is in need of adjustment, and the coat of arms shows some wear and discoloration.
