Description:

Part of the Kaiser Wilhelm II Jagdschloss Schonbuch Collection, from Schonbuch Castle, Stuttgart, Germany. The trophies are primarily from three of the Kaiser’s hunting lodges (jagdschloss) in Germany. Featuring a ten-point rack with a 32 inch span, this red stag skullcap is cut and mounted in the European style, with the marking "1891/Hofjagden/bad/Gastein" in black ink on the bone. Originally a gold mining and farming region, Bad Gastein became known for its waterfalls and hot springs as early as the 13th century, being frequented by a virtual "who's who" of high ranking German and Austrian nobles and politicians. The cap is mounted on a two-piece hardwood plaque, 16 inches wide and 14 inches tall, with raised oak-themed carving and a small brass badge of the Coat of Arms of Austria-Hungary. These trophies have survived traversing the Atlantic, two world wars, and the ravages of time and have been curated over a period of 40 years through descendants of Kaiser Wilhelm II, private collectors, auctions and individuals in Europe.

Rating Definition:

Very good, with minor handling marks.
