Description:

Measuring 24 3/4 inches overall, with a 17 1/4 inch blade showing a very strong and very straight hamon and very active grain, installed in a gilt copper habaki. The tsuba is round iron construction, with pierced and carved floral decoration, with copper fuchi and koshira, green cord wrap, and beast-themed menuki. The tang is square cut with a re-drilled mekugi-ana and no signature. The saya is finished in speckled brown and black lacquer with a green cord sageo. Consignor attributed as 1650's production.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The finely polished blade shows some light spotting and rubbing, with a strong hamon and attractive grain, and the habaki shows some light rubbing and scuffing. A 3/4" long section of replaced wood is present on the saya, with some mild handling marks on the hilt.
