Description:

Measuring 28 1/4 inches long overall length, the blade features a 22 1/4inch cutting edge, a very bold and wide hamon and active grain, fitted with a diagonal streaked silver-plated habaki. The tang is well aged, with two mekugi-ana and a 5-figure signature on the left side. The signature is attributed by the consignor as that of a Shinto-era smith based in Fujishiro (modern Toride, Ibaraki Prefecture). With a set of shirasaya fittings, a blue and red cloth sword bag and a purple cord.

Rating Definition:

Fine. Aside from a few spots of corrosion, the cutting surface of the blade is very fine, with a strong hamon, attractive grain, and an overall very nice appearance. The tang shows a proper dark patina, with a few rust spots obscuring part of the signature. Some seam splits are visible on the fittings, which are otherwise very good.
