English-made double barrel shotgun imported by the Winchester Repeating Arms Co., and sold under the Winchester name between 1879 and 1884, with less than 10,000 total believed to have been imported. These were the first shotguns to bear the Winchester name and were manufactured by a number of late 19th century English gun makers and sold via the Winchester New York sales depot. Single bead sight on the smooth concave rib marked "WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS Co. (Club Gun) NEW HAVEN CONN. U.S.A." with 2 5/8 inch chambers, single extractor, English proofs on the flats and water table, and modified/cylinder chokes. Casehardened receiver with fine Arabesque scroll engraving, finely sculpted hammers and fences, small game scene vignettes at the back of each lock with a hunting dog on the right and a pair of partridge on the left. Each lock plate is marked "WINCHESTER REPEATING /ARMS Co./Club Gun". Checkered splinter forearm with engraved fittings and pistol grip buttstock with a checkered horn buttplate. The barrel and stock measurements are: bore diameter at 9 inches from breech .742/.747 inch; minimum wall thickness .030/.030 inch; drop at comb 1 7/8 inches; drop at heel 3 inches; length of pull 14 inches.

Fine as restored. The barrels have most of the applied brown finish with slightly light rib markings and engraving, visible Damascus pattern, and some small scattered dings. The receiver has most of the muted case colors with crisp engraving, faint traces of light pitting, and a smooth gray patina on the balance. The wood is also fine with well defined freshened checkering, attractive grain, and a few scattered pressure marks. Mechanically functions fine, though there is some barrel lateral movement felt when the action is locked up.
