Description:

These Colt muskets were produced throughout the Civil War under contract with the Union and state governments. An estimated 100,000 muskets were manufactured by the end of the war. This model is partially based on the Enfield Pattern 1853 and many of its features were passed on to the Springfield Model 1863 rifle-muskets. This 1863 dated example has the standard markings and features. There are standard inspection markings throughout, including crisp "DAP" and "JT" cartouches on the left stock flat, "M.M.J" on the comb ahead of the buttplate tang, and "E.F" on the left barrel flat.

Rating Definition:

Excellent, as issued, overall with bright original armory polish, minor patination, some small spots of slight pitting, mild pitting on the forend cap, some oil staining, and scattered light storage dings and scratches on the otherwise excellent wood. Mechanically excellent.
