Description:

Manufactured in 1911. The accompanying factory letter lists this revolver with a 4 3/4 inch barrel in .45 LC, blue finish and checkered wood grips when it was shipped to Joseph A. Marks & Co. of Detroit, MI on August 9, 1911. The barrel has the two-line address on top and the caliber designation on the left side, and the frame has the two-line patent marking with a circled Rampant Colt on the left side. Matching serial numbers are found on the frame, grip straps and grips (05). The scarce factory grips feature fancy checkering and Rampant Colt medallions. The trigger is a period custom replaced extra wide with coarse diamond pattern checkering. The period Colt box has an end label for a .45 caliber SAA with a 4 3/4 inch barrel, blue finish and hard rubber stocks. The box lacks a serial number. Also comes with the "Special Instructions."

Rating Definition:

Exceptionally fine as custom modified (see above). The revolver retains 85% original blue finish with the balance a smooth gray patina and cycling marks on the cylinder. The front sight and trigger are replacements. The hammer and frame retain 80% plus vivid original case colors. The grips are extremely fine with a few minor handling marks and a few blemishes in the overall crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent. The faded box is fair with repairs, some missing material and wear. A fine representative example of a SAA with scarce factory checkered grips.
