Colt manufactured around 100,000 of these rifle-muskets in 1861-1865 using surplus machinery from the Robbins & Lawrence Co. that had been used to produce Pattern 1853 rifle-muskets for the British during the Crimean War. Some of the features were adopted for the Springfield Model 1863s. It has the standard markings and features and is dated "1864" on the lock and barrel. The bayonet has "US" at the base of the blade.

Very fine with light, mottled patina forming on the otherwise armory bright metal, general handling and storage marks, crisp cartouches and other markings, some dents and scratches in the otherwise fine stock, and some minor chips along the ramrod channel. The bayonet is very good and has mottled gray and dark pitting. Mechanically excellent.
