Originally manufactured in 1911 and subsequently professionally engraved and signed by Master Engraver Cole Agee. The revolver has fabulous near full coverage cattlebrand and floral scroll motif on a punch dot background. This motif was an extremely rare and highly desirable pattern developed in the late 1940s that depicted all the of more prominent and historic Texas cattlebrand used in the 1880s and early 1900s. The engraving on this revolver has the recognizable "101", "XIT" and many other famous Texas brands. Jink Howard, the author of the book "Cole Agee, Texas Engraver," identifies the engraving on this revolver by Master Engraver Cole Agee in an accompanying signed letter dated September 13, 2012. Agee has signed his work inside the scrollwork on the right side of the frame. It is extremely rare to have a gun signed by Agee. Other known works are signed by Agee with a "CA" brand. The barrel and frame retain the period Colt markings. The serial number "318027" is stamped on the frame and back strap, and the non-matching serial number "318028" (one digit off the frame number) is stamped on the trigger guard. All metal surfaces are plated in gold. The accompanying factory letter lists this revolver with a 7 1/2 inch barrel in 32-20, blue finish and type of stocks not listed when it was shipped to Simmons Hardware Co. on June 22, 1911, as part of a 2 gun shipment.

Extremely fine as professionally custom embellished. The revolver retains 95% of the gold plating showing some minor flaking and some minor edge wear. The grips are excellent with a few natural hairline cracks and highly attractive color. Mechanically excellent. A very nice Texas cattle brand revolver done by Cole Agee, the pioneer and master of the cattle brand engraving. This is a rare opportunity to own a genuine example of the most desirable of all 20th century Old West engravers!
