Description:

Manufactured in 1884 and subsequently embellished by Master Engraver Weldon Bledsoe with his famous cattle brand motif. On the right rear of the frame is Bledsoe's signature: a small "B" with "W" and "A" contained within it. The revolver has near full coverage cattle brand and floral scroll motif on a punch dot background. This motif was an extremely rare and highly desirable pattern developed in the late 1940s that depicted all the of more prominent and historic Texas cattle brand used in the 1880s and early 1900s. The engraving on this revolver has the recognizable "101", "2 Lazy 2 (sideways) 2 P" and many other famous Texas brands. An accompanying handwritten letter of authenticity on Bledsoe's personal letterhead confirms that this revolver was engraved by Bledsoe. In the signed letter Bledsoe references this revolver by barrel length and serial number. The top of the barrel has the two-line Colt Hartford address, the left side of the frame has the three-line Colt patent dates, and the left side of the trigger guard has "45 CAL." Matching serial numbers are found on the frame, trigger guard and back strap. The right side of the grip has a cattle brand silver insert. The accompanying Colt factory letter lists this revolver with a 4 3/4 inch barrel in .45 caliber, blue finish and hard rubber stocks when it was shipped on April 11, 1884, to Hartley & Graham, New York City.

Rating Definition:

Very fine as embellished by famed Master Engraver Weldon Bledsoe. The revolver retains a bright appearance showing some light pitting near the muzzle. The undersized grip is fine showing some minor handling marks and typical age cracking on the bottom. Mechanically excellent.
