Description:

Manufactured in the 1930s, this is one of a limited number of examples of the "Turkish Police" contract Luger pistols. Only around 750 were manufactured and delivered on the contract, and the number seen on the market today falls in the single digits. While many Luger variants were released to the commercial market at the end of their service lives, research has indicated that the Lugers still in Turkish hands in the 1980s were subjected to a mass destruction order, with very few recorded survivors. This particular survivor is the subject of a full page photographic spread on page 498 of Hallock and Van de Kant's "The Mauser Parabellum 1930-1946", which describes the pistol and its included accessories as "probably the finest", with the chamber marking being "absolutely correct". Fixed sights, with the "TC" monogram of the Republic of Turkey on top of the chamber, the Mauser banner on the front toggle link, German "crown/crown/U" marks on the extension and breechblock, and "eagle/63" on the right side of the extension and frame. The right side of the extension is marked "Emniyet Isleri/Umum Mudurlugu" (General Directorate of Security Affairs), and the extractor and upper safety position are marked "ates" and "emniyet". With the exception of the sear (which is numbered "98" instead of "89") external numbers are matching overall, including on both of the nickel finished alloy base magazines, which bear "eagle/63" inspection marks and are properly numbered "1" and "2" the holster is fine black leather, with the flap showing the "TC" monogram, the General Directorate marking, and a matching serial number on the front. A steel "eagle/63" marked takedown tool in a small pouch on the interior of the holster.

Rating Definition:

Excellent, with 95% plus factory quality blue finish, showing some bright wear along the high edges and some mild handling marks overall. Over 75% of the original straw colors are present on the small parts, and a similar proportion of the fiery niter blue. The grips are very good, with some light pressure dents. The holster is very good, with a few light cracks and scuffs, solid stitching and clear markings. Mechanically excellent. Scarce in any condition, a Turkish Police Mauser Luger pistol is one of the items absent in nearly every Luger collection, and chances to acquire one are few and far between. Especially one this fine with this complete of an accessory group, is a true rarity, and one would be hard pressed to find its equal.
