Established in Edinburgh in 1853, Alexander Henry was most famous for being the designer of the Henry rifling and barrel used on the Martini-Henry rifle. Henry was appointed "gun and rifle manufacturer to His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales" in 1872. The company also manufactured high quality single and double barrel rifles and shotguns. Single brass bead on a smooth solid concave rib with doll's head extension, which is marked "ALEX. R/HENRY, EDINBURGH AND LONDON/MAKER TO THEIR ROYAL HIGHNESS THE PRINCE OF WALES AND DUKE OF EDINBURGH". 2 1/2 inches chambers and bored approximately 1/4 and 3/4 choke. The treble grip action, locks, hammers, trigger guard, break lever and forearm hardware are engraved with fine English scroll and both sides are marked "ALEXr HENRY" in banner. The water table is marked "5747/AH", and the barrel flats are marked with a "crown/GP", "crown/V" and the London proof house proofmarks, as well as "NOT FOR BALL", "14M", "12B" and the serial number on each side will "AH" over the number on one side and under it on the other. "5747" is also marked on the lower tang. Brown Damascus barrels, blue trigger guard and break lever, and casehardened remaining metal parts. Mounted with a checkered splinter walnut forearm and round knob pistol grip stock with a 1 inch leather wrapped recoil pad and gold initial oval. Drop at the heel is 2 inches, drop at the comb is 2 inches and the length of pull is 14 inches. Barrel measurements: right barrel proved at 12, measuring .731, minimum wall thickness .025; left barrel proved at 12, measuring .731, minimum wall thickness .028 Weight: 7 lbs 6.8 oz. Comes in a leatherwrapped walnut takedown case with red felt lining. The exterior has brass corner protectors, leather straps and a replacement leather handle. There is an Alexander Henry, LTD label affixed to the inside of the lid. In the case is a James Dixon & Sons nickel oiler, a three-piece brass and ebony cleaning rod, two nickel snap caps, a round wooden container and cleaning patches.

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 75% original brown finish on the barrels and 99% of the Damascus pattern still visible. The remaining metal surfaces retain at least 90% original bright case colors with some smooth gray patina on the front, underside of the frame. The trigger guard is thinning and the lower tang has a smooth gray patina. The wood is very good plus with crisp checkering and a few minor dents and dings on the stock. The markings and engraving are crisp and clear. Mechanically excellent. The case is good with scuffs, scrapes and some material loose on the exterior. As noted above the handle is a replacement. The lining is very good with some minor contact wear and partially relined.
