Description:

Manufactured in 1895 as a second model with a casehardened takedown frame and concealed locking lugs. The accompanying factory letter lists this rifle in .22 short when it was received in the warehouse on September 10, 1895, and shipped out several days later on September 26. The serial number was applied on August 19, 1895. It is fitted with dovetail beaded blade front and elevation adjustable rear sights. The top barrel flat is stamped with the two-line address ahead of the rear sight and "22 SHORT" at the breech. The upper tang is stamped with the three-line model and patent dates marking, and the lower tang has the serial number. Mounted on a 12-groove round forearm and straight grip stock with a crescent buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Exceptionally fine. The barrel, bolt and magazine tube retain 80% thinned original blue finish. There is a sizeable area of minor pitting towards the muzzle. The remaining surfaces retain 75% vivid original case colors. The wood is very fine with some minor pressure dents and scratches. Mechanically excellent. A highly attractive example of a desirable antique Winchester Model 1890 rifle with casehardened frame.
