Description:

This is a desirable WWII configured M1 Garand rifle that has been fitted with the M7 Grenade Launcher, M15 GL sight and an original stock rubber recoil boot. These grenade launchers and sights were developed in mid-WWII as a means for the average infantry man to be able to engage machine guns, pill-boxes and light tanks at long distances by just firing a barrel mounted grenade. The rifle used a blank cartridge designed to fire/propel the MkII fragmentation grenade which was held in a special launcher. With the M7 grenade launcher attached the M1 could also fire smoke, white phosphorus and white star parachute flare grenades. The underside of the sight is correctly marked, "Sight, Grenade Launcher M15" and the underside of the launcher is marked "Fay & Scott, M7 Grenade Launcher". The rubber recoil boot is marked on the bottom, with a large "U.S./Ordnance Bomb/B200968". The rifle itself is a standard mid-WWII production model that is fitted with a "S-A-7-43" marked barrel, an unmodified op-rod marked "D35382 6 SA", a WWII bolt that is marked "D28287-12SA". It is fitted with a mixed WWII trigger group. It has a standard front sight and a WWII locking bar rear sight set. It has a wide base gas cylinder, late pattern high hump gas cylinder lock. It is fitted with a nice walnut stock and handguard set, with the stock marked with a partial boxed SA cartouche and circled "P" proof in the pistol grip area. The rifle is complete with a WWII canvas sling. Provenance: Bruce Canfield collection.

Rating Definition:

Very good as arsenal refurbished with 80% of the mixed wartime parkerized finishes overall with the exposed parkerizing on the receiver, bolt and rear sight having completely browned out. The stock and handguard set is in fine condition with a nice medium brown color overall with light but visible cartouches as noted above. Mechanically excellent.
