An Alfred Tonks of Boston as a maker of percussion revolvers and double shotguns is listed in Frank Seller's book "American Gunsmiths" with the dates 1856-1888d. Patent no. 16,411 for an improvement in firearm locks is in his name.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The barrels retain 60% of the brown Damascus pattern with the balance a mottled gray patina. There is some mild pitting on the barrels. The remaining surfaces retain nearly 30% original case colors in and around the protected areas. The wood is fine showing some minor pressure dents and scratches and a few blemishes in the overall crisp checkering. An incredibly hard to find shotgun of spectacular quality and condition.
