Description:

The Super-Fox was developed in 1922 as a collaboration with Western Cartridge Company for their revolutionary Super X shotshells. John Olin developed the new cartridges for his company, along with Charles Askins, Sr., the best known gun writer in the country at the time. While testing the cartridges, they discovered that they performed best through an A.H. Fox shotgun that had been bored out by Philadelphia gunsmith, Burt Becker. Becker then worked with Fox to develop what would come to be known as the Super Fox. Approximately 300 Super Fox guns were manufactured over a roughly 20 year period. Single bead sight on the matte concave rib with 3 inch chambers, automatic ejectors, and .013(M)/.021(IM) chokes. The barrel are marked "CHROMOX FLUID COMPRESSED STEEL" and "MADE BY A.H. FOX GUN CO. PHILA. PA. U.S.A." on the right and left respectively. The right barrel flat is correctly marked "BARRELS NOT GUARANTEED-SEE TAG". Light border and scroll engraving on the receiver with double triggers and tang mounted automatic safety. Checkered splinter forearm and pistol grip buttstock with a leather faced solid rubber recoil pad. Barrel and stock measurements are: bore diameter at 9 inches from breech .741/.740 inch; minimum wall thickness .031/.032 inch; drop at comb 1 5/8 inches; drop at heel 2 1/2 inches; 13 5/8 inches.

Rating Definition:

Fine. 60% original blue finish remains with some deep scratches on the left barrel, areas of a thin gray patina, and small nicks and dings throughout. The receiver has 40% original subdued case colors, smooth gray patina on the balance, light spotting, and sharp engraving. The revarnished wood has scattered small pressure dents and scratches, deformation of the pad, and peeling leather pad face. Mechanically excellent.
