The included factory letter confirms the serial number, barrel length, gauge, matted barrel, and that the shotgun was received in the warehouse on June 18, 1897, and shipped on the same day on order number 8983. Single bead sight on the matted barrel with the two-line manufacturer and patent markings on the left side of the barrel and "12" on top of the barrel at the breech, 2 3/4 inch chamber, and modified choke. There is a star stamp after the serial number on the underside of the receiver indicating this is a special order gun. Fancy checkered forearm an straight grip buttstock with inset ebony diamonds on both sides of the wrist, and a checkered hard rubber Winchester buttplate. The stock measurements are: 1 5/8 inch drop at comb; 3 inch drop at heel; 14 inch length of pull. This shotgun is pictured and identified by serial number on page 530 of "The Winchester Book" by Madis.

Fine. 40% original blue finish remains with areas of a mottled blue/gray patina, scattered brown spotting, surface scratches, high point and edge wear overall, and scattered small dings. The wood is also fine with worn checkering, small dings and indentations throughout, scratches, and some light surface age cracking. Mechanically excellent.
