This is a very desirable example of a rare smooth bore .22 LR Shot Model 61 rifle featuring standard Winchester markings including the factory oval proof on the barrel and receiver and "-22 L. RIFLE-/-FOR SHOT ONLY-" following the barrel legend and a single bead front sight. 17 groove flat bottom forearm and smooth buttstock with checkered steel buttplate. Nice figure to top of stock. THE WINCHESTER MODEL SIXTY-ONE book by C.H. Key discusses, "Barrel markings are ahead of the location where the rear sight seat would be located. This is a rare variation, made about the same time smoothbores were discontinued. Markings in this location are very rare."

Very fine. 90% plus original blue finish remains with slide retraction marks on the barrel and magazine tube, scattered small surface scratches, and some light brown patina on the bolt. The attractive wood is fine with numerous small scattered dings, and a small chip on the left side at the frame junction. Mechanically excellent.
