Description:

This is a very good example of a 1914 Dated Crown Erfurt Artillery Luger rig that includes a board shoulder stock, 1917 dated brown leather holster, leather stock boot, cleaning rod, takedown tool, drum magazine and loading tool. These early Erfurt Artillery Lugers are difficult to find as the production rate in 1914 was fairly low, they saw 4 years of heavy use during WWI, with most reworked after the war. It is dated 1914 on the chamber with the "Crown/ERFURT" markings on the front toggle. The barrel extension has the Imperial Army "Crown/Gothic" letter proofs and Imperial Eagle firing proof. The Imperial Eagle firing proof and "Crown/script letter" proof is also repeated on the right and left breech end of the barrel respectively. The Erfurt "Crown/RC" proof on the rear toggle with most parts marked with a single "Crown/Gothic letter" proofmark and or "Crown/Erfurt RC" proofmark. The barrel is fitted with Artillery tangent rear sight, marked 1-8, (100-800 meters) and both the front and rear sights have the fine-tune adjustments found on the early Artillery Lugers. This Luger is complete with one nickel plated, unmarked wooden base magazine. It comes with an original 1917 dated brown leather holster that is marked on the underside of the flap with an unreadable makers name/1917/DUSSELDORF". This rig also includes an original, (nonmatching) walnut board stock numbered "1825/k" on the iron and leather boot. The walnut stock itself has a single Imperial "Crown/S" script proof on the back side. The holster is complete with a wood handled steel cleaning rod and a takedown tool. This lot also includes an original 32 round snail drum magazine and a reproduction, drum loading Tool. The drum is stamped "B/N" indicating it was manufactured by the Bing Company.

Rating Definition:

Very good with 25% of the original blue finish overall showing wear on the blue finish mixed with a brown, oxidized patina on the grip straps, underside of the barrel and frame rails. The stock is in fine condition with a nice original oil finish with a visible script proof. The attaching iron retains half of its blue finish. The holster, straps and boot are all in good condition with tight stitching overall with the leather showing minor age cracking, creases and scratches overall from field use. The drum magazine retains 85% plus of its original blue finish. A solid representative 1914 Erfurt artillery rig.
