World War II Quality Hdw M1 Carbine with M3 Infrared Sniper Scope, Rig with Power Pack, Battery, Case and Various Spare Parts

This is a fine example of a late WWII M1 carbine as manufactured by the Quality Hardware Company that has been fitted with a late manufacture M3 Infrared sniper scope. This example is from the Bruce Canfield collection. These scopes were originally manufactured in mid to late 1944, employed in very limited numbers during WWII with almost all of them being used during the Korean war. These infrared scopes (the M2 and M3) were the first true night vision scopes used by the U.S. Army, that eventually lead to the later "Starlight" scope developed during the Vietnam war. The M1 Carbine as noted was manufactured by the Quality Hardware company that has the standard receiver markings with the barrel marked "ROCK-OLA", with no other markings. The carbine is fitted with a late style round bolt, a late type III "KI" marked barrel band/bayonet lug, a late Korean war era, M2 stock with a four-rivet hand guard. The rear sight has been removed and the carbine is now fitted with an original M3 scope mounting bar on top of the receiver, which is fitted with a Korean war era M3 infrared sniper scope. The right side of the scope is fitted with a small nomenclature plate marked: "CORPS OF ENGINEERS U.S. ARMY/TELESCOPE/SNIPERSCOPE INFRARED/20,000 VOLTS/CAPEHART-FARNSWORTH CORP./FORT WAYNE IND." It is dated "6-22-51" with serial number "1093". The carbine is complete with one 30 round magazine and a very scarce, original "SA-M3" marked flash hider. The M3 unit is complete with the infrared collector on top of the scope, mounting bar, cables, original power pack, 2-batteries, forward mounted pistol grip/trigger assembly and an original rubberized backpack/carrying case. This scarce M1 Carbine/M3 Infrared scope rig is complete with its original green M3 storage case/chest with the large "U.S." M3 scope markings stenciled on the lid, that includes several smaller light bulbs, funnel, fuzes and rectifier. Provenance: Bruce Canfield collection.

ConditionVery fine with 90% of its arsenal refurbished parkerized/blued finish as refurbished for the Korean war. The stock and handguard are both in very good condition with a medium brown color overall with light handling marks on the sides. The M3 scope assembly and accessories all appear to be in very fine condition (although the scope and poser source have not been tested) with 95% of the black painted finish still remaining overall. The markings are clear and distinct, and the various accessories and case are all in excellent condition. A very nice looking Korean War era M1 carbine/M3 infrared sniper scope rig. Additional Information/correction: This M3 Scope was manufactured by the "Capehart-Farnsworth Corp., Fort Wayne IND. Under contract 6-22-51 and is so marked on the data plate. This is a much scarcer/rarer scope than those manufactured by the American Optical Company, the other company that produced M3 Sniper scopes.
