Description:

Manufactured in 1917, the U.S. Model 1917 rifle is essentially the British-ordered Pattern of 1914 rifle altered to meet American demands, particularly being chambered for 30-06 Springfield instead of 303 British, and disposing of the volley sights. While later manufactured 1917s would bear nomenclature similar to the 1903 Springfield rifle, the very start of U.S. contract productions bore markings more in line with the British contract. Blade front and folding ladder rear sights, with "W/bomb/6-17" on the barrel, "U.S./W/2714" on the receiver ring, a circled "star" and "flaming bomb" on the left side wall, and a "W" and "NS" marked bolt. The stock is marked "W" and "41" on the tip and with a small "eagle head" proof behind the replacement "rough" milled blued trigger guard assembly, with a brown leather sling and a smooth steel buttplate. Inside the buttstock is a nickel-finished oiler with a pull-through bore cleaner.

Rating Definition:

Fine, with 75% of the original blue finish, showing some bright edge/cycling wear, a few areas of brown/gray patina, and scattered light spotting and handling marks. The refinished stock is very good, with some dings and dents. Mechanically excellent.
