The lid of the capper has a high relief Rampant Colt above a Paterson rifle above crossed Paterson revolvers. A double line border has the words, "COLT'S PATENT PATENT ARMS Mang Co. PATERSON N.J." The knob has a ring for a lanyard. The inside of the capper and lid have the matching number "8." The lid is locked by a swivel bar on the back.

Very fine overall. The interior exhibits most of the original gilt with the spring loaded "feeder arm" retaining 85% original nitre blue. This is a very important and hard to find accessory for an original Colt Paterson rifle. Most of these are only found as part of case sets and thus are very hard to acquire for those missing one in their collection. One will look a long time to find a loose one of these without having to buy a whole set to get one!
