Description:

The revolver was manufactured in 1849. Only around 7,000 First Model Dragoons were manufactured. They were designed by Samuel Colt for the U.S. Mounted Rifles and were also issued to the U.S. Dragoons. It has a German silver blade front sight, "{ADDRESS SAML COLT NEW YORK CITY}" reading from breech to muzzle, small inspection markings, "COLTS/PATENT/US" on the left side of the frame, standard roll scene (no patent or U.S.M.R./Dragoons marking visible), round cylinder stops, squareback trigger guard, and smooth grip with faint cartouche. The flask is the same basic design as shown on pages 162 and 163 of "Colt Percussion Accoutrements, 1834-1873" by Rapley. These flasks were made until 1855 and were issued with 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Model Dragoons. This one has desirable "WAT" and "P" inspection marks on the top and has "COLTS/PATENT" double stamped on the ball compartment lid in arches instead of parallel lines.

Rating Definition:

Very good with mottled gray and brown patina, light pitting and oxidation, moderate dings (especially the left side of the frame), abrasive cleaning scratches, faint cold blue and some remarked or freshened markings (barrel address and cylinder serial number, restamped to match and cylinder pin numbers), some battered screwheads, and aged patina on the brass. The grip has moderate handling and lower edge wear, some small chips, and mild scratches. Mechanically fine. The flask is good and has an old seam repair, non-functional spout, some dings and scratches, and aged patina.
