Description:

Active in Baltimore, Maryland from about 1833 to 1870, Samuel Jackson was a noted maker of surgical tools, pocket knives and razors, his output being regarded as on-par with European imports as early as 1843. His overall weapon output is believed to have been limited, though he was a known maker of bowie knives, as well as presentation quality officers swords, including examples given out for the Mexican-American War. Overall length is 5 3/8 inches, with a 3 3/4 inch long double edged spear point blade and "SAMUEL/JACKSON/BALTIMORE" on the ricasso. The handle is a smooth antique ivory tapered cylinder measuring 3 3/4 inches long. With a German silver sheath.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The blade shows some of the bright polish, mixed with some mild pitting, areas of brown patina, and light nicks along the edges, and the ricasso shows a dark gray color. The hilt is good, with some age cracking, and showing fine grain and antique color. The sheath is good, with hole in top left (where stud probably once resided),some light scuffs and scattered dark spots.
