Description:

Measuring 6 inches overall, this push knife is fitted with a 3 1/2 inch long double edged spear point blade, with a thin round ricasso/tang and the number "28" in red enamel paint on one side; while not documented, similar enamel markings have been seen on items from the inventory of Robert Abels, antique dealer and author of the pamphlet "Bowie Knives" and the book "Classic Bowie Knives". The handle is smooth one-piece rosewood, lightly contoured with the tang visible through the back and secured with a German silver spanner nut. The sheath has a brown leather veneer and German silver fittings, with a faint "28" opposite the button-shaped collar stud. Notes from the consignor attribute it to New Orleans.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The blade shows an overall bright patina, with some pitting and polishing marks, as well as a mixed gray color to the tang. Some light dings are present on the grip, and the sheath shows some light surface cracks and wear.
